Horizon Forbidden West, the critically acclaimed sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, has garnered immense attention, for a good reason. It’s an excellent game with an awesome DLC that, while review bombed, builds on the narrative and allows the universe to branch out to explore spin-offs and new installments.
While Guerilla Games hasn’t been shy of teasing a bright future for the Horizon franchise, Singapore might have gotten the jump on the Amsterdam-based studio.
According to a listing posted by Singapore’s regulatory body, a “Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition” is coming to the PlayStation 5.
For those closely following gaming news, this isn’t entirely a surprise. The word about the Complete Edition was part of the Nvidia GeForce Now leak, making its PS5 rating feel more like an anticipated revelation than a shocker. If all these rumors hold any water, this version might also find its way onto PC platforms, which PlayStation Studios has promised previously. If predictions hold true, we could see the game on PS5 by early 2024, granting Sony another feathery arrow in its quiver of exclusives for the fiscal year. The PC release could follow suit later the same year or perhaps drift into 2025.
Pricing has always been a factor for gamers, especially when considering editions packed with additional content. With the inclusion of the DLC, the Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition could be priced at around $70 for the PS5. The reception of such editions is, for the most part, positive. Complete Editions, often interchangeably referred to as Gold or Ultimate Editions, bundle the base game with all its extra content. This proves beneficial for gamers, especially for those purchasing physical copies.
A complete bundle simplifies the gameplay experience, allowing you to enjoy the entirety of the game while ensuring that you can lend it to a friend or you’ll still have the same experience even if you buy it second-hand.
History serves as a reminder that Horizon Zero Dawn welcomed a similar edition as well, marking an entry point for numerous fans to delve into the Horizon universe – it doesn’t hurt that Sony literally gave it away for free a while back. Two years since Horizon Forbidden West’s original release, this news aligns well with PlayStation’s typical release cycle for such editions.
But Horizon’s tale doesn’t end here. Fans who voraciously consumed the game’s lore were quick to pick up on the clues dropped in the recent Burning Shores expansion. These hints have fans eagerly speculating about the next phase of the journey of Aloy. Adding fuel is Guerilla’s plans for the future. The studio has begun weaving the narrative tapestry for the third mainline Horizon game. This announcement came right on the heels of the Burning Shores release and seems to align with the storyline breadcrumbs dropped for the players.
Yet, changes are afoot at Guerrilla Games. Studio director and executive producer Angie Smets is now transitioning to a pivotal role at PlayStation Studios. The leadership at Guerrilla Games will now be steered by Joel Eschler, Hella Schmidt, and Jan-Bart van Beek.
Apart from this, Guerrilla Games is setting the stage for an online multiplayer venture based in the Horizon universe. It was announced in December and this project promises a unique visual style, letting players immerse themselves in the vast expanse of Horizon’s wilderness in a collective experience.
Guerrilla has more cards up their sleeve. The studio has hinted at various transmedia projects that are set to expand the story of Aloy, including a rumored Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for PS5 and a Netflix adaptation.
All of this is to say that the world of Horizon is expanding and fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
