Talk about flirting with controversy, it appears Warner Bros. Discovery is diving into uncharted territory for the Wizarding World with a Harry Potter TV show.
According to Giant Freakin Robot, HBO Max is working on a Hogwarts Legacy TV show, likely encouraged by the success of the newly released video game of the same name.
The Wizarding World franchise has become a no-fly zone because of J.K. Rowling. Although a new Fantastic Beasts film was out last year, it flopped, which proves the lack of commercial viability of the series. But, after Hogwarts Legacy bucked all of the expectations, Warner Bros. may want to capitalize.
For what it's worth, the source doesn't have the best track record. It should go without saying, but do take this with a grain of salt.
With that said, you can't blame Warner Bros. Discovery for following the money trail. After pulling out several TV shows and movies from HBO Max, the media conglomerate needs a win. Harry Potter, for all its controversies, is a safe bet. Of course, it will have to be good to actually pull in the numbers, but it's not like the Wizarding World lacks interesting stories to tell outside of the main Harry Potter series.
