HBO Max cancels Titans and Doom Patrol

After surviving the death of the DC Universe (no, not the same one that James Gunn recently re-founded), Titans and Doom Patrol couldn't survive the new regime.

Titans and Doom Patrol was one of the more successful comic book TV shows in recent memory.

Corlys Velaryon, one of the lead characters in the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, once said that "to elude a storm, you can either sail into it, or around it. But you must never await its coming." It appears that the producers of the HBO shows, Titans and Doom Patrol, are taking this to heart because they are making sure to give each respective series a proper end before they are officially canceled by HBO.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that both Doom Patrol and Titans are ending with their currently-ongoing fourth seasons.

An HBO Max spokesperson said:

While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings.

We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.

Doom Patrol could have a future in James Gunn's DC Universe.

Before streaming on HBO Max, Doom Patrol and Titans premiered on the DC Universe streaming service, which also met its end. Although both shows share different continuities, they're often associated with each other. Titans' fourth episode was the backdoor pilot for Doom Patrol, which made its debut months later. Since then, the new seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol have been released close to each other.

Titans and Doom Patrol are currently on a mid-season break, with each show still having six episodes left before ending.

Now that HBO Max has dropped Titans and Doom Patrol while CW has canceled Stargirl, the only remaining DC Universe show on any platform is Harley Quinn on HBO Max.

It'll be interesting to see what James Gunn has in store for the fans of Titans and Doom Patrol, especially as we inch closer to his promised reveal of the future of the "new" DC Universe.
