When will video game developers ever learn? The backlash to Ubisoft's earlier NFT announcement should have been enough to dissuade others. Although Ubisoft still pushed it through, they're one of a handful of companies that can take the financial brunt of such negative comments and come out relatively unscathed. Others? Not so much.

, the developers of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl confirmed that it was going to auction NFTs that, in a nutshell, would let gamers paste their likeness onto the heads of one NPC in the game. The studio made everything sound like a big deal, describing it as paving the way for us to become "the first metahumans" where all that they were going to do is just scan a select few's faces inside the game.
