Sony confirms State of Play for Final Fantasy 16 on April 13

Sony's announcement hints that the upcoming Square Enix JRPG is the only game in the event but we'll have to wait and see if others appear.

Final Fantasy 16 has already gone gold with over two months to go before its launch.

While fans are waiting for Sony to confirm its first PlayStation Showcase in more than six months, it recently revealed that a State of Play livestream is coming soon.

According to the console maker’s most recent announcement, the upcoming State of Play event is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, at 10:00 PM BST / 2:00 PM PT / 5:00 PM ET.

Based on how Sony worded the blog post, it will exclusively feature “more than 20 minutes” of gameplay footage of Final Fantasy 16.

Don’t expect to see anything else other than the upcoming Square Enix title.

Square Enix has hyped its latest Final Fantasy game so much that it will be very disappointing if it isn’t great.

The State of Play has become a staple of Sony’s marketing schedule, often to the chagrin of fans. Unlike the much larger PlayStation Showcase, a State of Play is usually only around half an hour long and is usually only about a few games, or in this case, just one. But, this is Final Fantasy 16 we’re talking about – one of the most hotly anticipated games coming to the PlayStation 5. So, while we’re getting more info about just one game, it’s easily one of the biggest PS5 games this year.

As for Final Fantasy 16 itself, Square Enix has done an excellent job of revealing more information about the latest Final Fantasy installment. The last we heard, FF16 will have a demo that will let you carry your progress in the full game ahead of its release. It also probably isn’t coming to any other platform outside of the PS5, which, according to Square Enix, is the best console for FF16.

In other Square Enix news, the controversial Japanese company has revealed a teaser for Symbiogenesis. Despite bidding farewell to its NFT-loving CEO later this year, Square Enix appears to remain bullish on the idea of cryptocurrency.

Square Enix is believed to be one of the companies Sony is eyeing for an acquisition.
