Konami made a town-sized splash last year when it announced a smorgasbord of Silent Hill games, headlined by a remake of Silent Hill 2 by Bloober Team and a new Silent Hill movie.
But, as it turns out, Konami is gearing up to announce a line of new installments to some of its most iconic franchises.
According to a VGC podcast, Konami will reveal the long-rumored remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in June and a Castlevania reboot and, quite possibly, the supposedly unannounced Silent Hill projects that are currently in development.
According to VGC podcast, Konami planned to have a "pretty big E3." New Castlevania and MGS3 remake expected to be there. Less clear on what the plans are currently for the older Metal Gear games. Konami hasn’t touched the Metal Gear and Castlevania franchises for years. In that time, we’ve heard plenty of rumors that Konami is secretly working on new installments. But, there are a few good reasons why this time is different.
For starters, Konami just revived Silent Hill in a big way. Silent Hill was among the properties Konami was rumored to be working on in late 2021 after it skipped E3 2021.
In addition to this, it’s been rumored that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is in the works although some believe that it could be a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game. Either way, what these reports have in common is that the Metal Gear Solid remake will be exclusive to the PS5, similar to the remake of Silent Hill 2.
Finally, what’s led us to believe that Konami will reinvest in some of its biggest gaming properties is the resurgence in the popularity of Castlevania. Netflix’s animated take on the genre-spawning vampire franchise has been well-received with a spin-off on the way.
Considering that Konami has a handful of projects that isn’t exclusive to Sony’s flagship console, it makes a lot of sense for Konami to be at E3 2023. The only question is if it will reveal more details about Silent Hill Townfall, Silent Hill: Ascension, or Silent Hill f, by then, or if it will use this opportunity to announce other projects. We’re hoping that it’s the latter if only because we’re itching to find out what Snake has been up to all these years.
In case the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is true, we’re hoping it succeeds and opens the door to remakes of the other Metal Gear Solid games. Even if Hideo Kojima is already gone and working on different stuff, there’s enough content there for Konami to remake for at least a decade. This should give Konami more than enough time to come up with a proper new installment that would make the franchise’s fans proud.
In the meantime, Castlevania fans can look forward to the Castlevania x Dead Cells crossover DLC, Return to Castlevania, that launches on March 6.
