John Wick 5 is still possible after the success of Chapter 4

Lionsgate Group President Joe Drake revealed that the production team will take a break before working on to the next chapter.

John Wick 5 is definitely on the table after the success of the fourth movie.

John Wick: Chapter 4 had a massive opening weekend and is on track to becoming the best film in the franchise. Given the popularity of John Wick: Chapter 4, fans have started asking if there’s a possibility of a fifth movie. The ambiguity of the film’s ending has left audiences wondering if Keanu Reeves is coming back.

Lionsgate Group President Joe Drake cleared the air in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter where he said that a fifth movie is on the table.

“There’s a will and there’s an openness. And you could certainly interpret that ending in different ways,” Drake said. “We’re all going to take a tiny rest here and then scratch at ideas about whether there’s a credible way to get into five. But there’s no guarantee.”

Joe Drake reveals that the studio will look at the possibility of a fifth movie.

Both Reeves and series director Chad Stahelski previously said that Chapter 4 would be the end of John Wick. The director previously planned on shooting the fourth and fifth movies back to back but scrapped the idea once they wrote the ending for John Wick 4. But, John Wick’s death in Chapter 4 isn’t explicitly shown, leaving it open to audience interpretation. Movie goers only see a shot of Wick bleeding out on the steps of the church and later on Winston and the Bowery King visit his grave in New York.

Interestingly, the exchange between John Wick’s friends led many to speculate that the duo faked Wick’s death.

Drake adds, “Keanu and Chad, rightly so, are very protective about never screwing with the audience. So, we certainly have our work cut out for us. … Keanu is so beloved and that character is so beloved; that’s not lost on him.”

If it’s any consolation, Reeves isn’t hanging up his gun holsters just yet. The actor will next appear as the assassin in the Ana de Armas-led spinoff Ballerina. According to Reeves, he will have a small role in the film. Reeves joins other returning John Wick cast members Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick in the upcoming movie.

John Wick will be returning in Ballerina starring alongside Ana de Armas.

“He is in Ballerina, interestingly, in a very strategic way. And we’re talking about a couple of others that he could certainly participate in,” Drake shared. “I know that Chad has a bunch of really cool ideas.”

Director Chad Stahelski previously said that he always thinks that the next John Wick movie will be his last. However, the director also shared that he wants to take a break before even considering working on John Wick 5.

Will we be seeing Reeves back for John Wick: Chapter 5? Lionsgate will surely have an answer once the fourth movie ends its theatrical run.

Aside from John Wick 5, audiences may also be interested in seeing Donnie Yen’s Caine return to the big screen. The actor expressed interest in making a spinoff movie for his character.
