John Wick: Chapter 4 is one of the highly anticipated movies coming this month and following the release of early reactions a few weeks back, the critics appear to love it more.
The fourth movie in the John Wick franchise has debuted with a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, which opens globally on March 24, maintained the positive critical response for the franchise starring Keanu Reeves.
As of writing, the movie has received 68 reviews from critics, with an average score of 91%. It may go up or down when it gets more reviews but after it came out with an 86% rating, we're inclined to believe that it has nowhere to go but up.
Each John Wick movie has surpassed the last, both in terms of critic scores and the box office. The original film received a score of 86% while the next two installments got a score of 89%. Chapter 4 may surpass the earlier movies as early reviews indicate that it is the best in the series.
"If you took The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, crossed it with Zatoichi, and threw in a Greek myth, you'd probably get something close to this," director Chad Stahelski said in an interview back in 2022. "And who else f---ing says those kinds of sentences? Now you know why I like doing John Wicks."
John Wick started out as a modestly budgeted film and turned into one of the most anticipated franchises around today. The franchise has now branched out with a spin-off film starring Ana de Armas and an upcoming TV series.
John Wick: Chapter 4 continues the story of the once-retired assassin as he tries to regain his freedom. John Wick will be taking on the High Table while trying to fight off other assassins trying to claim the bounty on his head. The film will take audiences on an adventure across the world, from New York to Paris, Osaka, and Berlin.
Keanu Reeves will be starring alongside series mainstays Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick. Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, and Scott Adkins will be joining the fourth movie. Yen has been cast as Caine, a blind High Table assassin and friend of Wick.
Reeves has teased that the upcoming movie will be the most action-packed film in the series.
"John Wick: Chapter 4 has the most action of any of the [John Wick] films, which is saying a lot," Reeves reveals. "And it's more by a good margin. It's a big show."
Fans will get to confirm if the reviews are spot on once John Wick: Chapter 4 opens in theaters on March 24.
