Tango Gameworks, the studio behind the survival horror game The Evil Within, surprised fans with their latest game, Hi-Fi Rush, which was launched on January 25 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
According to the game's description, Hi-Fi Rush is an action-adventure rhythm game that follows the story of Chai, a wannabe rockstar who goes up against a sinister robotics enhancement conglomerate using rhythm-amplified combat where everything—from the motion in the environment to the blows of combat—is synced to the music. This means that players get rewarded for jumping, dodging, and parrying attacks. The key to the game is timing and staying on beat to execute the perfect combos.
Shinji Mikami, the founder of Tango Gameworks and creator of the Resident Evil series, told Famitsu in an interview last year that he wanted the company to make games outside of the survival horror genre. I hope to eventually change the image that Tango Gameworks currently has. At the moment, we are still seen as a studio that specializes only in survival horror.
Of course, it's nice to have fans think of us as a studio with a reputation for developing survival horror games. But we also want to be viewed as a studio that can create a wider variety of games.
