With just a single tweet, Rockstar Games has commanded the attention of the entire world.

Weeks after confirming that the debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive in early December, Rockstar has confirmed its release date and time: Tuesday, December 5 at 9:00 AM ET.

The official announcement comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Just like that, everyone’s alarms are set for Tuesday.

This epic convergence of controversy, imagination, and benchmark-setting plans has been the topic of conversation for over a decade. The talks grew larger when Rockstar officially acknowledged the game in February 2022.

A few months later, a data leak saw several details about GTA 6/a>, including its potential timeline, go up on the internet, where it’s still available to this day if you look hard enough.

Now, the legendary developers have just announced the official teaser drop date for “Trailer 1” of GTA VI. In true Rockstar fashion, the statement comes with no other words other than details of when to tune in. Even so, it’s one of the most anticipated upcoming games of all time.

According to the earlier reports, Grand Theft Auto VI is on track to set a new record as the most expensive video game. However, it’s also on track to make at least $1 billion in its first few days on the market. This means it can match if not exceed its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, as the most successful entertainment product ever.

In fact, there’s reason to believe that GTA 6 can set an all-new record by grossing well over $1 billion in two days. The past year has seen Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Hogwarts Legacy set new records in their respective launch weekends and weeks.

It’s still unclear when Rockstar Games will be available to play, but a tentative release window between April 2024 and March 2025 has been hinted at by several parties, including Take-Two Interactive. The chief evidence lies in Take-Two’s projections for that fiscal year, which would be near-impossible to achieve without the help of GTA 6.

Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, is hinting at the potential use of AI in GTA 6 but clarified that a strike will not delay the game’s release if it happens.

GTA 5 is currently the second-best-selling video game in the world with over 190 million units sold. On the other hand, the studio’s “other” top-billing franchise, Red Dead Redemption, isn’t too far behind with over 80 million copies sold.

Judging from how Rockstar usually does things, GTA VI should be released at least a year from now.

In other GTA news, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is launching on Netflix on December 14.
