Call of Duty meets Magic in Electronic Arts’ Immortals of Aveum

Electronic Arts' upcoming magic FPS title boasts a talented team of developers with experience working on some of the industry's best titles.

Immortals of Aveum isn't afraid to wear its inspiration on its sleeve but it's also aiming to be so much more.

What do you get when you bring together a team of talented individuals with experience working on Call of Duty, Dead Space, BioShock, and Metal Gear Solid and make them focus on a single vision? Immortals of Aveum will try to answer that question.

Published by Electronic Arts, Ascendant Studios’ latest title is a single-player magic shooter that’s launching on July 20, which confirms earlier rumors.

Ahead of its release in a few months, Electronic Arts revealed a trailer for Immortals of Aveum and it’s wowed audiences so far.

According to the press release, Immortals of Aveum is created by a studio “made up of BAFTA and Game of the Year award-winning industry veterans,” which isn’t just a bluff. The studio’s founder, Bret Robbins, is the brains behind the first Dead Space, which received a faithful modern remake. Robbins also worked on the campaigns of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Advanced Warfare, as well as WWII.

Magic seems to be en vogue this year, with Hogwarts Legacy making nearly a billion weeks just after its launch. Forspoken, for all its faults and lack of commercial success, was still an awesome showing that showcased how powerful someone with the ability to use magic can be. But, unlike Immortals of Aveum, these are predominantly third-person action RPG titles. On the other hand, the EA Originals title feels reminiscent of a Call of Duty game but with magic replacing guns.

Immortals of Aveum might end up being a surprise GOTY candidate if all goes well.

With flashy and colorful spell effects as well as combat gameplay that looks satisfying based on the trailers, we believe that Immortals of Aveum will turn a lot of heads when it comes out in July.

If you doubt the quality of Immortals of Aveum, don’t forget that EA Originals has had more hits than misses lately. 2021’s GOTY winner, It Takes Two, was published under the same label. Omega Force’s Wild Hearts, which came out earlier this year, was also well-reviewed as a close facsimile of Monster Hunter.
