Hit indie title Among Us is set to complete its console hat trick later this year once it launches on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Is Among Us' Launch on PS4 and PS5 Confirmed? Once it launches on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Among Us will have launched on all major gaming platforms.
Among Us was first released in June 2018 on iOS and Android devices before being ported over to Windows PCs via Steam in November of the same year. However, the social deduction game wouldn't gain that much attention for some years until the latter half of 2020. After becoming the go-to game of many streamers and internet personalities during the COVID-19 pandemic, Among Us experienced an unprecedented boom in player count.
As a result of its surprising success, the developers, InnerSloth LLC, initially considered releasing a sequel to the game, Among Us 2. However, they later backed out from their plan for fears of splitting the player base. Instead, they focused their efforts to continue supporting the game and providing numerous updates, including the most recent Airship map update.
In addition to updates, InnerSloth LLC has also since ported Among Us over to other platforms. The first mainstream gaming platform to receive Among Us was the Nintendo Switch in December 2020. In the same month, the Xbox One, as well as Xbox Series S/X, versions of Among Us was also announced with a 2021 release window.
Fast forward to around half a year later, Among Us will finally be coming to the PlayStation consoles.
