Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as Venom, and it appears to be for the final installment of the film series. The actor delighted fans by sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, as production resumed after the conclusion of the writers’ and actors’ strike.
Hardy’s Instagram post revealed that Venom 3 has officially kicked off production, featuring snapshots of himself along with director Kelly Marcel. Marcel is making her directorial debut with the film, having previously served as a writer and producer for the first two Venom films.
While the movie initially started production earlier this year, it was temporarily paused due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Consequently, Sony announced a delay in Venom 3’s release, pushing it to November 8, 2024. This delay provides the filmmaking team with ample time to wrap up filming and navigate the post-production process.
Joining Hardy in the cast are Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor, though their specific roles in the film remain undisclosed. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker will take on producer roles alongside Marcel and Hardy.
Observant fans might notice a connection between Venom 3 and the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Eddie Brock, played by Hardy, is seen wearing the same clothes from that scene, where Venom sought details about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the aftermath of Thanos’ Snap. This has sparked speculation of a potential link between the upcoming Spider-Man movie, Venom 3, and the broader MCU. With Brock transported to Earth-616, the movie could signify a merging of the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Verse, potentially featuring MCU heroes in Venom 3. Rumors also suggest a showdown between Venom and Spider-Man in the upcoming film.
Marcel recently shared some insights into the film’s plot, describing it as “amazing” and promising a lot of fun. In an interview with Collider, she expressed her excitement about working with Hardy and teased a film filled with laughter.
“I can’t really tease you anything about it other than it’s going to be amazing,” the director shared. “Tom and I genuinely just have a blast with each other whenever we get to work together. There’s a lot of laughing that happens.”
While Venom 3 shapes up to be an exhilarating installment, it might mark Tom Hardy’s final solo adventure as the anti-hero. The actor previously hinted that Venom 3 would be his “last dance” in the film series, though he remains open to reprising the role in future projects involving other Spider-Man characters.
Venom 3 is set to arrive in theaters on November 8, 2024.
