British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast in an undisclosed role in the third installment of the Marvel and Sony superhero film Venom.

Ejiofor’s casting was revealed by Deadline. The news comes less than a month after a similar report revealed that Ted Lasso actress Juno Temple has joined the franchise. Ejiofor and Temple join Tom Hardy who is set to reprise his role as the titular character.
So far, the three are the only confirmed members of the film’s cast with Deadline stating "It also is unknown who will be joining Hardy from previous films or whether any characters from the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters will be joining the film."
While we don’t know which characters will join Hardy in the film, we can confirm that Kelly Marcel who wrote the screenplay for the first two films will also return for Venom 3. As with previous films, Marcel will pen the film’s screenplay. However, she will be doing so based on a story she developed with Hardy. More importantly, Marcel will take the director's seat for Venom 3 in what will be her directorial debut.
Hardy and Marcel will also serve as producers on the film, alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Hutch Parker, and Matt Tolmach.
Apart from the cast members, plot details for Venom 3 are also currently unknown. However, a rumor emerged last December that the character will take on Spider-Man in a forthcoming film. Given Venom’s appearance in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home and both characters’ established antagonism from the comics, the rumor seems reasonable.
Nevertheless, it is best taken with a pinch of salt since neither Sony nor Marvel has provided any backup for it.
By the way, Venom 3 will mark Ejiofor’s second stint as a Marvel character. The 12 Years a Slave star previously starred as Baron Mordo in the Doctor Strange films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his last appearance coming in last year’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Given there are rumblings of a third Doctor Strange movie, it remains to be seen how Ejiofor will juggle both roles or whether he will relinquish his Baron Mordo character.
Ejiofor’s last appearance came in the science fiction comedy film The Pod Generation opposite Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January but is yet to have a wide release. His next appearance will be in the second installment of the Netflix film The Old Guard. It is currently in post-production and slated for a 2023 release.
In February, Hardy revealed Venom 3 is in pre-production. We doubt that has changed given the fact that the film is yet to have a complete cast.
