TMNT Splintered Fate is what happens if you take Supergiant Games’ award-winning roguelike, Hades, and put the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in it.
With master Splinter missing in action, the turtles must now work together to turn New York inside out while searching for their father figure and sensei into what’s described as an “evolving narrative.” In their adventure, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, will encounter familiar faces like April O’Neil, Casey Jones, and Donatello’s friendly robot creation, Metalhead. But, unlike last year’s Shredder’s Revenge and The Cowabunga Collection, this one is a roguelike.
As is usually the case with roguelikes, the titular heroes become more powerful through power-ups and unique combat abilities in each run. However, the game itself will evolve as well, as the room layouts will constantly change while bosses will feature different modifiers each time you face them.
It’s an interesting mechanic that’s usually not found in mobile games, which signifies Apple’s commitment to the gaming industry.
TMNT Splintered Fate isn’t the only new video game that just launched on Apple Arcade. The turtle brothers brought in a handful of reinforcements as well, including Disney SpellStruck, What the Car?, as well as Cityscapes: Sim Builder.
Apple Arcade isn’t the only place Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is invading. Paramount has confirmed that a AAA adaptation of the graphic novel, The Last Ronin, is currently in development. Also, Shredder recently joined Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, as an operator. Finally, the animated film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, will premiere on August 4.
Speaking of Hades, a sequel to one of this generation’s best games is scheduled to go Early Access sometime later this year.
