The Game Awards is on for December 7

Last year's show was a spectacular affair, pulling in an audience of 103 million global viewers. The highlights included remarkable musical performances from the likes of Hozier and a resounding on-stage orchestra. The ninth edition of this annual gala was nothing short of a massive production, boasting celebrity guest appearances as well as new game unveilings, all on top of being a star-studded awards show. Major announcements left fans elated, revealing awaited titles like Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2, Ken Levine's Judas, Hades 2, a Bayonetta prequel, and Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, topped off by a heartfelt speech from Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos.

The world of gaming is vast, encompassing various media from video games to television, movies, and beyond. As the ever-present executive producer noted in its press release: With so many beloved video game franchises exploring new mediums and developers creating new experiences across platforms, the industry continues to expand in many surprising ways, and we can't wait to honor the year's best games and to show viewers around the world what's next. It's crazy to think that a game like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom won't win the Game of the Year Award but it might just happen.

We can only imagine which headliners will make their appearance at The Game Awards this year after last year treated us to the likes of Final Fantasy 16, Diablo 4, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, all three of which having garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, especially at launch.

Of course, who could ever forget the night's biggest victors: Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok. While the former seized the revered Game of the Year title, en route to setting a historical high, the latter bagged six awards out of eleven nominations.

This year's iteration promises to be another memorable evening. The show, much to the delight of global fans, will be streamed for free across 30+ digital video platforms including the likes of Twitch, YouTube, Steam, X, Facebook, and TikTok Live. To further elevate the atmosphere, The Game Awards Orchestra, led by the celebrated Lorne Balfe, will be returning.

To celebrate a decade of recognition and festivities, a special live concert was organized this past June. Throughout the years, The Game Awards has consistently been a December event, a nod to the gaming industry's accomplishments for the past year. Besides accolades like Game of the Year, the event is also revered for unveiling new projects, allowing developers and publishers an opportunity to share insights on existing games before the year concludes.

While this year's details remain under wraps for now, the expectation is sky-high.

At the moment, public opinion gives Baldur's Gate 3 a slight edge over The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with Starfield possibly capable of making this a three-game race.
