It looks like the performance issues faced by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at launch didn't prevent it from quickly becoming a fan-favorite. The UK launch sales of the sequel now surpass its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, by over 30%. This impressive achievement highlights the growing excitement and demand surrounding new games set in the Star Wars universe.
According to the GamesIndustry.biz head, Christopher Dring, Jedi Survivor enjoyed overall better sales compared to Fallen Order in the United Kingdom even though its physical retail sales are way down. Dring explained that Jedi Survivor nearly doubled the digital sales of Fallen Order, which more than made up for its lower physical sales.
Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, Jedi Survivor pulled in positive reviews from critics ahead of its launch. However, many noted that it would need fixing and optimization, which EA promptly promised to do for the next few weeks.
It's safe to say that EA has made true to its initial promise.
Jedi Survivor sees players step into the role of the now-grizzled Jedi Padawan, Cal Kessis, who must battle throughout the galaxy to preserve the Jedi Order while also battling an ancient and unlikely foe.
Jedi Survivor is largely seen as an improvement over the original, which was already considered one of the best Star Wars games of all time.
Previously, Fallen Order faced criticism for its slow loading times and technical issues, which detracted from the experience. The developers benefited from the more powerful hardware housed inside the PS5 and the Xbox Series S/X. But, perhaps more importantly, Respawn made significant strides in eliminating the issues that once plagued Jedi Survivor. Although the launch could've been handled better, Jedi Survivor has recovered since.
Jedi Survivor's success is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Star Wars franchise, which continues to expand decades after George Lucas started everything.
There are currently several Star Wars games in development at the moment, including a real-time strategy project by the same studio that made Jedi Survivor. But, Jedi Survivor remains the gold standard for video game adaptations that are set in the galaxy, far, far away.
