Tango Gameworks' Ghostwire Tokyo has been played by over 4 million players a little over a year after it first came out on the PS5 and just weeks after it was released on the Xbox Series S/X.
Ghostwire Tokyo was part of the previous deal ZeniMax Media and Sony had to make some of its studio's in-development projects exclusive to the PlayStation 5 for a limited time. The other one, Deathloop, reviewed well and even ended up being nominated for Game of the Year in 2021.
In line with Shinji Mikami's usual MO, Ghostwire Tokyo takes place in the streets of Tokyo, which are, for some reason, now overrun by supernatural beings. But, unlike The Evil Within, Ghostwire Tokyo is more of an action-adventure game where players take on the role of a character with supernatural abilities who must fight these spirits and uncover the mystery that led to their sudden appearance.
Ghostwire Tokyo is a huge hit among both players and critics alike. Many praise its unique gameplay mechanics as well as its fittingly eerie atmosphere and stunning current-gen visuals. It might not be a survival horror title, but it's equally terrifying and thrilling to play.
