Activision recently announced that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy has sold more than 10 million units globally, marking a significant milestone for the rebooted series.

Originally launched for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2018, the collection was later ported to Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in September 2019. This news comes as Spyro prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary later this week on September 9, signaling that the little purple dragon still has plenty of fire left.

Developed by Toys for Bob, the trilogy brought new life to the original three Spyro games: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. These titles were initially released for the PlayStation 1 and quickly gained a cult following, cementing their place in the 5th console generation among the best 3D platformers and collectathons on the market. Interestingly, the studio's commitment to Spyro was briefly side-tracked when it was reduced to a support studio for Call of Duty in 2021, though it seems to have regained its footing since.

The game's sales figures might not have eclipsed those of the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy as quickly, but it's massive enough to reignite conversations about the franchise's future. In the gaming community, the sentiment seems to be one of immense value for money, with many comparing Spyro's success to that of the Crash Bandicoot remake trilogies. Fans have been vocal about their desires for a brand-new Spyro game, especially in light of the success of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. While there's no concrete evidence suggesting that a new Spyro game is on the horizon, the strong sales of the Reignited Trilogy make the idea more plausible than ever.
