The purple dragon that stole hearts in the late 90s may be breathing new fire soon. According to multiple reports and insider sources, developer Toys for Bob is currently working on a new mainline entry in the beloved Spyro the Dragon series.
The credible rumors started swirling at PAX East which was held last week, where whispers of a new Spyro game were heard on the convention floor. Known Crash Bandicoot and Spyro insider Canadian Guy Eh claims to have spoken to numerous developers, creators, and journalists who all separately indicated that Spyro's return was in the works.
Then, on March 23, Windows Central reported that the newly independent Toys for Bob had struck a deal with Microsoft for its next project. This prompted Canadian Guy Eh to press his sources further, eventually obtaining direct confirmation that Spyro 4 is actively in development as of early 2024.
"As of March 2024, Spyro 4 is currently in development," Canadian Guy Eh stated definitively in his YouTube video. "It is being handled by Toys for Bob, and development started in and around January 2024. Because Toys for Bob has gone indie, they're now free to work directly with Microsoft on projects without Activision's bureaucracy and without the risk of being shifted onto other, larger Activision projects at the expense of their own."
