Gamescom is back with its first in-person show in years in August. Unfortunately, it will have to do without major PlayStation reveals, among others.
According to the German website, Games Wirtschaft, the console manufacturer is joining Nintendo, Take-Two Interactive, and Activision Blizzard, as companies that will not attend the event. But, don't worry. While Gamescom's organizers have not published a full list of attendees yet, they are claiming that 250 companies will appear this year, including Bandai Namco as well as THQ Nordic.
Gamescom 2022 will be a hybrid week-long event with in-person as well as online proceedings. The entire showcase will kick off on August 21 with Geoff Keighley hosting the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase followed by more updates from August 24-28 in Cologne, Germany.
Last year's Gamescom event treated audiences to gameplay trailers and reveals of games like Dying Light 2, Forza Horizon 5, and the upcoming Saints Row reboot. If an ideal world, we'll get our first look at GTA VI at Gamescom 2022, although we'll be happy to get a new Darksiders game announcement or an Elden Ring DLC now that it's become the best-selling FromSoftware game ever.
