Dinosaur-themed gaming is making a return bigger and better, following Saber Interactive’s announcement of Jurassic Park: Survival at The Game Awards 2023. Departing from the familiar territory of park management simulations, the upcoming single-player adventure title will offer gamers a whole new perspective on the vast Jurassic Park universe.
Set one day after the events of the 1993 film of the same name, players find themselves in the shoes of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist stranded on the fictional island of Isla Nublar. Playing from a first-person perspective, we can expect a wild, uncharted universe filled with some of history’s most formidable predators, where direct confrontation is not an option.
Instead, Jurassic Park: Survival will encourage players to rely on good old-fashioned creativity, distraction, and stealth to outwit the dangerous prehistoric creatures that inhabit the island.
Rumors about a new survival horror Jurassic Park game began back in 2021. Earlier this year, the rumored title was said to be a game “fans have been hungry for” by an industry insider, but no news was revealed about the developer working on the title.
Though Jurassic Park: Survival is still in its early stages of development, Saber Interactive has proved through the announcement trailer that it’s committed to creating a “fully realized Isla Nublar filled with reactive wildlife, dinosaurs, and other surprising threats.
With familiar locations and features like the Visitor Center and the railed-electric tour vehicles, Jurassic Park: Survival will likely be a faithful adaptation of the original Steven Spielberg film. The presence of menacing denizens of the OG park like the Dilophosaurus, Velociraptor, and the infamous Tyrannosaurus Rex means this will not be a family-friendly entry, much to the celebration of fans.
Jurassic World Evolution 2, which came out in 2021, was a business sim where all players had to do was construct and maintain a dinosaur park. Jurassic Park: Survival will be an entirely different monster.
An official release date is yet to be announced, but we know that Jurassic Park: Survival will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Here’s hoping that this will not simply be nostalgic bait.
