Sony’s only confirmed title for the PSVR2 is Horizon Call of the Mountain by Guerilla Games and Firesprite Games. This means that Sony could reveal more than a dozen PSVR2 games at its upcoming showcase later this week.
According to a credible source, the lineup includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
RalphsValve and AccountNGT both claim that Modern Warfare 2 is getting a PSVR2 version with an official reveal coming as soon as next week. This might raise questions knowing that Microsoft technically already owns Activision Blizzard after shareholders all agreed to the sale. But, it’s important to remember that Activision still has exclusivity contracts with Sony, specifically, with the Call of Duty franchise.
RalphsValve, in particular, adds that similar to recent Call of Duty entries, the higher tiers of Modern Warfare 2 will have PlayStation-exclusive content. This will reportedly include a PSVR2 version of Modern Warfare 2 as part of Sony’s aggressive marketing efforts to sell the PSVR2.

This isn’t the first time that Sony and Activision have worked together on a VR experience offshoot of the publisher’s premier shooter. Coincidentally, the first time was with an Infinity Ward title as well in 2016’s Infinity Warfare. The Jackal Assault VR Experience wasn’t the best showing for either the PSVR or Call of Duty, but we could say the same for most of the early attempts to make a VR version of any big franchise.
With at least six years of experience since then and more powerful hardware to work with, a VR project based on Modern Warfare 2 should be better. The only question now is, what kind of scope can we expect from Modern Warfare 2 on the PSVR?
In an ideal world, we’re looking at a full-game Modern Warfare 2 experience in VR for the PSVR2, but we could be wrong.
Having said that, a Call of Duty game for the PSVR2 at launch in 2023 would do a great job driving sales to the upcoming VR headset. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out at least some of the games that are headed to the PSVR 2. Fingers crossed, we’ll see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on June 2.
In the meantime, you can keep yourself busy jumping down the Modern Warfare 2 rabbit hole. At the moment, fans are still trying to figure out the map outlines on each character’s face following the initial release date reveal.
