Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is getting a free prequel on May 6

Here's what Insomniac's narrative director, Jon Paquette, said about the upcoming freebie:

When we initially sat down with the team at Marvel, we explored a few different ideas about what kinds of stories we could tell in a prequel comic. But we kept coming back to the same core premise - What if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn't understand? Additionally, we wanted to make sure that we could get a peek into what this heroic trio has been doing since the events of Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Christos Cage, the writer of Marvel's Spider-Man as well as other successful comic books and their adaptations, penned the prequel comic with long-time Spider-Man illustrator, Ig Guara, signing up as the illustrator.

While this isn't exactly a playable DLC, it's a great way to hype Marvel's Spider-Man ahead of the

unannounced PlayStation Showcase

later this month.

As for the release date of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, several sources have claimed that

it will be out in September

.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is likely primed as the big holiday release for the PlayStation 5 this year, much like how

God of War: Ragnarok

was last year. Before then, PS5 owners will be able to play at least two other PS5 exclusives in

Baldur's Gate III

and

Final Fantasy XVI

. It's unclear if

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

will make it to the store shelves before the year ends

but it's highly unlikely

. It's believed that Square Enix will elect to release the Final Fantasy VII Remake sequel in early 2024, presumably just before the end of the current fiscal quarter.
