Spider-Man fans better get ready for another round of quips and catching bad guys in the concrete jungle of New York City with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, slinging word webs with the same electrifying energy as Miles Morales’ bioelectric Venom powers.

Following a series of teases and an extended gameplay trailer at the recently-concluded PlayStation Showcase, the release date for the much-anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, was finally unveiled during the Summer Game Fest: October 20, 2023.

In an electrifying reveal, game director Bryan Intihar not only dropped the launch date but also gave us tantalizing glimpses of the challenges awaiting our web-slinging heroes, Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Amid the skyscrapers of Marvel’s New York, they will face not only the enigmatic Venom but also the formidable Kraven the Hunter.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s main villain probably isn’t Kraven the Hunter but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be awesome. (Image via Insomniac Games).

Kraven, the game’s unlikely villain, is a departure from the traditionally superpowered or magic-wielding foes of Spider-Man. Intihar describes Kraven as simply the best at what he does. He’s come to New York in pursuit of his “greatest hunt,” and he’s not just stalking Peter or Miles. As for the enigmatic figure encased in the iconic black symbiote? Intihar insists it’s not Eddie Brock and advises us to hold onto our suspense until the game’s release.

For fans who’ve been craving for more immersive gameplay, Insomniac Games has you covered. The game lets you control both Spider-Men at different points of the campaign, switching nearly instantly between them in the open world. As you traverse Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, you’ll encounter unique missions and storylines exclusive to each Spider-Man.

The narrative isn’t all that’s tailored for each hero. The game box art reveals the new abilities of both Peter and Miles. Peter is armed with the symbiote, while Miles wields his evolved bioelectric Venom powers. The game will feature other notable villains like Venom and Lizard as well, further intensifying the suspenseful gameplay.

If you’re itching to get in on the action, you can start pre-orders from June 16th, 2023, at participating retailers, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct. Pre-orders include enticing perks such as early unlocks of the Arachknight Suit for Peter and the Shadow Spider Suit for Miles, each with three additional color variants. You’ll also unlock the Web Grabber gadget and receive three skill points.

If you’re looking for something more, there are the Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Editions. The Digital Deluxe edition comes with the game, all pre-order incentives, and a collection of 10 unique suits, designed by guest artists such as Kris Anka, Julia Blattman, and Sweeney Boo, among others. The Collector’s Edition offers everything in the Digital Deluxe Edition plus a steelbook case and a spectacular 19-inch statue featuring the Spider-Men locked in battle with Venom.

But remember, this isn’t just a game. It’s a journey into the heart of New York, where you’ll weave between skyscrapers and become the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. More importantly, it’s an opportunity to experience the exhilarating camaraderie and occasional rivalry of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they face daunting odds together.
