Casual Spider-Man fans, especially those who know the movie versions of the character, probably aren't quite as aware of what Peter Parker can do when he lets loose. Now, another more mainstream medium will reveal a darker side of the titular character when Marvel's Spider-Man 2 comes out later this year.

Just like what it did with its September 2021 PlayStation Showcase, Sony saved the best for its last with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 swinging by to end the event.
But, if you think that the game will feature the same jolly and carefree Spider-Man, you're dead wrong.
While the trailer shows a slightly more seasoned Miles Morales, the biggest change has to be with Peter Parker. Instead of staying away from the symbiote, this version of Peter Parker appears to have embraced it fully, and, as Miles puts it simply, he doesn't feel like his good ol' spidey self.
The extended gameplay trailer shows Kraven the Hunter looking for bigger game to hunt in New York, forcing Peter Parker and Miles Morales to protect the very same villains that they once swore to take down.
It's unclear if the two Spider-Man (or, is it men?) will go to the jungles to hunt Kraven the Hunter later in the game. The full twelve-minute gameplay trailer revolves around showing off the more aggressive playstyle sported by Peter Parker as well as the seamless switching between the two protagonists, both of which are still very much in New York. But, we've only seen Kraven the Hunter so far. The first trailer featured Venom heavily, so it's highly likely that we haven't seen much of the game yet.
Speaking of Venom, the symbiote suit of Peter Parker definitely looks alien - as it should. With the jovial characterization of Peter Parker now gone and replaced by a Batman-sounding version of himself that's more Moon Knight than Deadpool, we can't wait to find out how the game will build Miles Morales up to be 1B instead of being the Robin to Peter Parker's Batman.
Unfortunately, as hype-inducing as the latest trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was, Sony still hasn't revealed exactly when the game is coming out.
The first day of Fall 2023 will be on September 23 and it will end on December 22, so we'll likely get more information on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at least in August.
But, hey, as disappointing as that is, at least Sony didn't go full Toby Maguire again and gave Marvel's Spider-Man 2 an angsty and edgy version of Peter Parker.
Ultimately, we're liking the direction Sony is taking with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It's a self-contained adventure featuring two headliners sharing the same spotlight against a worthy foe but with the potential to explore so much more. Most likely, Sony is sitting on more expansions for the game, presumably ones that will explore Venom more as well as the symbiotes.
By the way, since we're on the topic, Kraven the Hunter is coming out on October 6.
