LEGO 2K Drive screenshots leak online

The unannounced LEGO game will be the first LEGO racing sim to be released since Drone Racers came out in 2002.

Forza Horizon 4: Lego Speed Champions was actually quite good if not a bit lacking in certain aspects.

It appears that 2K Games’ partnership with the LEGO brand is finally bearing fruit.

While 2K Games’ LEGO football is still nowhere to be found, the racing game is apparently much closer to reality than expected. Several sources have come forward in the past few days revealing information about the in-development LEGO racing sim, specifically, its name, LEGO 2K Drive, and what it will look like.

XboxEra’s Nick “Shpeshal” broke the floodgates wide open first before a Redditor raced past the NDA gates by dropping 13 screenshots showing off the logo, menus, and racetracks in LEGO 2K Drive.

The source, u/Consistentfly4437, compares LEGO 2K Drive to Mario Kart, saying it has multiple race types, different terrains, several selectable vehicles, and vehicles that can change their type depending on the driving surface. Additionally, LEGO 2K Drive will reportedly have “items/powerups” as well as the ability to create custom racers.

Millennials might be familiar with the LEGO racer games from the late 90s and early 2000s. The Mario Kart competitor was actually quite decent, spawning three installments in total. But, in 2003, a year after Drone Racer came out, the developers, Attention to Detail, filed for bankruptcy.

Since then, LEGO never really pursued racing sims again. But, with this revelation, it appears that it wants to ride the wave of nostalgia and was likely encouraged by the success of the LEGO-themed DLC for Forza Horizon 4 (and Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels).

Besides, with Mario Kart 9 nowhere in sight, a LEGO racing sim could theoretically work. But, 2K Games will have to confirm it first.

LEGO is teasing an announcement on March 23, we’re hoping to hear more about it by then.

A modern version of the Lego Racers games with a lot more polish would do well in the current market.

Speaking of Mario Kart, Mario and his friends ride their iconic go-karts when The Super Mario Bros. Movie comes out in the movie theaters on April 5.
