Horizon Forbidden West has had some recent controversies regarding the plot of its expansion, but this hasn't stopped the game from selling very well as Guerilla Games teases more adventures to come for the series' protagonist, Aloy.
According to Guerilla Games, the second mainline Horizon game has sold 8.4 million copies since its release, which takes the franchise to 32.7 million copies sold.
As per the studio's director, Jan-Bart van Beek, the figures are for the copies "sold through" to gamers as opposed to units shipped to retailers. This means that 8.4 million players have actually bought the game since its release.
Horizon Forbidden West was released on the PS4 and PS5 last February, with Guerilla Games recently releasing a PS5-only expansion, Burning Shores.
Millions more around the world have discovered Horizon thanks to PlayStation's subscription services and initiatives, including PlayStation Plus, and Play at Home," van Beek said. "All told, it's a milestone we never imagined possible twenty years ago when we first started making games."
