Days Gone had all the makings of one of the biggest releases with a post-apocalyptic open world, zombies, lots of guns, and a badass protagonist in Deacon St. John. But, while it did sell well enough, Days Gone wasn't a critical darling and had its fair share of shortcomings. Years later, Days Gone's creative director, John Garvin, took to social media to express his theories why the game had a lukewarm reception at launch.

According to Garvin, "woke reviewers" and "reviewers who couldn't be bothered to actually play" were to blame for the game's pedestrian scores.

"I will never understand how this game didn't get universal praise from critics. One of the few times I've been utterly blown away because I was expecting an average experience based on the reviews," Garvin tweets. The director then points out the reasons he thinks caused the average reviews.

It had tech issues like bugs, streaming, and frame rate, it had reviewers who couldn't be bothered to actually play the game, and three, it had woke reviewers who couldn't handle a gruff white biker looking at his date's ass," Garvin shared on Twitter.
