Cyberpunk 2077 getting new path tracing mode in April

This isn't the first time that path tracing is coming to games. Nvidia previously implemented path tracing in Portal, Quake II, and Minecraft. But, the aforementioned titles never really won audiences based on their graphics - how awesome they look is just a mere bonus.

Cyberpunk 2077 marks the first time that Nvidia is using this technology on a game that ranks up there as among the best of them when we're talking about graphical fidelity.

Nvidia didn't confirm what kind of specs you'll need to run Overdrive Mode in Cyberpunk 2077. However, it did mention it took "GeForce RTX 40 series and DLSS 3" before it could "bring path tracing to real-time graphics." It wouldn't surprise us if you'll need a PC with at least an Nvidia RTX 4070ti graphics card to enjoy the incoming Cyberpunk 2077 mode.

We'll find out more once Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.62 arrives on April 11.

The updates for Cyberpunk 2077 won't stop with the Overdrive mode. A DLC, Phantom Liberty, is still coming later this year. In addition to this, CD Projekt RED is working on a sequel already and it's under the codename, Project Orion.

The future is indeed bright for Cyberpunk 2077 - we're hoping CDPR reconsiders its stance on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
