CDPR confirms there are no plans for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2

Despite the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix, CDPR isn't keen on making a follow-up anytime soon.

Cyberpunk 2077 is in a good position right now and it's due in large part to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

We're not sure if Edgerunners will benefit from a second season, so this is probably all for the better.

Thanks to the success of the anime prequel on Netflix, CD Projekt RED announced the first and only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 with little to no issues. Unfortunately, CDPR just confirmed that it's not coming back to Edgerunners anytime soon.

According to a Famitsu interview with CD Projekt Red's Satoru Honma (translation by VGC), Edgerunners was "planned as a standalone work."

The good news here is that plans change.

CDPR will have to be foolish not to adjust its roadmap. Honma even mentioned his desire to "work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future" and it's because of the love fans showed Edgerunners. But, at the same time, we understand why CDPR wants to take it easy. The company can't afford to spread itself too thin and work on too many important projects at the same time. It probably won't be able to survive another stock dip resulting from a failed product.

Ultimately, the fate of Edgerunners was obvious from the start.

Fingers crossed, CDPR is thinking of another anime that will bridge the gap between Cyberpunk 2077 and its sequel.

If you're a fan of Japanese animation, Studio Trigger has a history with complete stories. The Cyberpunk 2077 anime spin-off is an example of this. Director and co-founder, Hiroyuki Imaishi, is also known for not working on sequels. It's unlikely that Imaishi is going to break tradition for Edgerunners. So, if Imaishi isn't on board, the second season of Edgerunners is not going to be as good.

The best course of action now is for CDPR and fans to take Edgerunners as it is - lighting in a bottle.

Speaking of Cyberpunk, CDPR has grand plans for the franchise. Even though the studio is no longer working on more DLCs for the controversial game, CDPR confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 will get a sequel. Also, future Cyberpunk 2077 games will get multiplayer, as well as The Witcher. Finally, a recent report corroborates earlier claims that the QA company played a huge role in the botched launch of Cyberpunk 2077 two years ago.
