It’s been said that everything looks better in color, and Marvel Studios seems to think so too. The acclaimed studio has just released a trailer for Werewolf by Night in Color, and it’s a vibrant twist on the original black-and-white version that had us all howling at the moon last year.
The trailer for this new version of the show, which Disney+ announced last month, starts in nostalgic black-and-white, but then, like a werewolf under a full moon, it transforms. Suddenly, we’re treated to a world of color that promises to be “More terrifying. More gruesome. All in color.”
It’s a lot like going from an old-timey horror flick to a modern-day scare fest. Besides, who doesn’t want werewolves in HD technicolor? The original Werewolf by Night was part of the MCU’s Phase 4 and was released on Disney+ in October last year.
Set in the intriguing Bloodstone Temple, it followed a group of monster hunters in a deadly competition for a powerful relic, with Gael García Bernal, who played the titular werewolf, Jack Russell, being the star of the show. His performance was so good that even the monsters under our beds gave him a standing ovation.
Now, while Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced any sequels, Laura Donnelly, who played Elsa Bloodstone in the special, is all geared up to return. She previously mentioned wanting to explore the budding relationship between Elsa and Jack. A love story between a monster hunter and a werewolf? That sounds a lot like Beauty and the Beast, but with more fur and fangs.
Marvel Studios’ executive producer, Brian Gay, hinted at future stories featuring the Werewolf by Night cast, saying:
I think one of the very cool things about the special is it’s just peeling back the corner of monsters in the MCU, right? And I think, well, we don’t know exactly where they’ll pop up next, the idea is that, with this wide swath of different species and types, they’re going to pop up again. You’re going to see these guys in different ways, of course.
So, who knows? Maybe we’ll see Jack, Elsa, and other supernatural beings teaming up in a future film. Midnight Suns feature film, anyone? Werewolf by Night in Color is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 20.
