Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has only been available to play for a couple of days now—much to the delight of fans— and it appears it’s already found itself at the center of controversy, mainly because of two things: misinformation and the relative lack of support from journalists who refuse to review the game for one reason or another.
To address the rumors circulating about its content, the development process, and to address player concerns, one of the game’s developers, Yoshimi Yasuda, has taken to X to clear the air.
Yasuda acknowledged that the team had received feedback from players regarding pricing discrepancies across different regions. Recognizing these concerns, he wants fans to know that they’re working hard to make adjustments as soon as possible. He also confirmed that the team is actively working on fixing these bugs and they are already considering implementing additional option settings and optimizations to improve the overall gaming experience.
One of the most notable issues addressed in the statement pertains to the game’s physics engine. Yasuda explained that the team opted to use KAWAII PHYSICS as a plugin for RePOP due to compatibility issues between the original version’s physics engine and Unreal Engine 5, which powers the remaster. He clarified the “unusual” behavior of the physics engine, which is just a more polite way of saying that it’s affecting the jiggle physics on Juliet Starling, was the result of a bug in the parameters and a fix is on the way.
The developer also touched on other graphical bugs and encouraged players to reach out via email with any additional issues they may encounter. This open line of communication demonstrates the team’s commitment to addressing player concerns and improving the game post-launch.
In a surprising turn, Yasuda expressed disappointment with certain influencers and journalists who he claims are spreading false information. Specifically, he refuted a common misconception claiming that he had proposed a censored “RePOP mode” and negotiated to make the original mode uncensored. Yasuda emphasized that the game specifications currently available to players have received ESRB approval and release approval from all platforms without any correction instructions.
Fans continue to praise Yasuda’s transparency and willingness to engage directly with players. However, not all reactions are positive. Some are expressing frustration with the game’s current state, arguing that the developers could’ve done better and made it more polished at launch. The lack of graphic options and the absence of cloud save functionality are just some of the issues raised by those who bought Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, especially on the PC.
As the development team works to address these issues, they have encouraged the players to share their experiences and report any bugs they encounter to help them identify and resolve problems across different platforms.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP and its developers are one of the few standing up against video game censorship, which is particularly important after Stellar Blade fell short of its initial promises after heavily marketing the lead protagonist in a certain way. Lately, prominent journalists and video game news websites have found themselves targeted by allegations of bias against and towards certain titles, including Concord, Star Wars: Outlaws, and Black Myth: Wukong.
Although Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP isn’t without fault, and the product clearly needs more polishing, the developers still deserve to be commended for releasing a product that’s as intended and as promised.
