Capcom's Dragon's Dogma, a cult classic that took the gaming world by storm over a decade ago, has left fans eagerly anticipating its sequel. Though the wait has been long, the recent revelations from Capcom might just make it worth our while.
During a recent interview with Video Games Chronicle, game director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi shed some light on the upcoming fantasy RPG. According to them, the delay wasn't due to a single reason but a culmination of factors. Itsuno's availability was one of the significant factors.
Without him at the helm, the sequel couldn't spread its wings. The success of the original game meant that Itsuno was swamped with other projects, leaving little room for Dragon's Dogma 2. It was only years later that the stars aligned, giving Capcom the perfect opportunity to work on the sequel.
Interestingly, Itsuno drew inspiration from an unlikely source for Dragon's Dogma 2: GTA V. He admired the game's ability to create a living, breathing world where NPCs seemed to have lives independent of the player. This "living world" concept was something Itsuno wanted to incorporate into Dragon's Dogma 2, making the game feel more alive and organic.
