A month from now, fighting game fans will get a chance to enjoy the latest entry in one of the most popular fighting game franchises in the world. With fans waiting in anticipation for the release of Street Fighter 6, Capcom tapped Lil Wayne to be the host of a dedicated showcase where it dropped a nasty combo of exciting news, highlighted by the release of the free-to-play demo.
According to Capcom, Street Fighter 6 is already available to play on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X and PC versions of the demo will be available on April 26.
Similar to the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom isn’t making Street Fighter 6 available on the Xbox One for some reason.
Going back to the demo, Capcom revealed that players can use this time to create characters that will carry over to the full release on June 2 as well as play Fighting Grounds matches.
Capcom used the showcase to highlight all the changes coming to Street Fighter 6 as well, including the World Tour and Battle Hub modes. In addition to this, Capcom confirmed that Street Fighter 6 will let players customize character movesets and meet other similar customized characters with unique skills. Finally, for players to gain access to specific moves, they’ll have to befriend Masters, which are characters from the main roster like Chun-Li.
Fighting game fans also learned Capcom is implementing a new feature where fighter outfits will wear out throughout the fight. Certain move types and distances will have specific sound indicators that players can turn on and/or off for accessibility as well. Capcom is also adding an off-only AI-assisted gameplay system, Dynamic, to help beginners. We also caught a glimpse of the Arcade Mode in Street Fighter 6, where gamers can compete for the highest ranking score online.
Other key features Street Fighter 6 will have at launch are the following:
- Player-specific tutorials
- Team Battles
- Extreme Battles with unique stage gimmicks
- Ranked Matches
- Casual matches
- Custom rooms
As a bonus, Capcom confirmed its post-launch plans for Street Fighter 6 with its year one plan including the release of four new characters, namely: Rashid (summer 2023), A.K.I. (autumn 2023), Ed (winter 2024), and Akuma (spring 2024).
Ultimately, Capcom did what it intended to accomplish with the latest Street Fighter 6 showcase – sell the fighting game to audiences ahead of its launch on June 2. If this didn’t win you over, nothing will.
It’s the perfect year to be a fighting game fan. In addition to Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 12 are expected to be released before the current year ends.
