Warner Bros. Discovery has released the first trailer of its upcoming film, Meg 2, ahead of its theatrical release for later this year. The entertainment behemoth released the video via its YouTube channel.
Released in 2018, the first film titled The Meg followed Jason Statham's character, rescue diver Jonas Taylor, and his efforts to save a group of people on an exploratory mission at the bottom of the ocean.
Meg 2: The Trench is the sequel to the film and will see Statham reprise his role from the first film. While we don't know much about the film's plot details, we know that Statham's character Taylor will once again face off against a megalodon shark or maybe more.
The film's synopsis reads, "Dive into uncharted waters with Jason Statham and global action icon Wu Jing as they lead a daring research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in a pulse-pounding race against time."
If the trailer is anything to go by, Meg 2: The Trench promises to be as thrilling as the first. Much like the first film, it shows Taylor being sought out and asked for help. Alongside a team of divers, he descends to the depths of the ocean before they are chased to their pod by a megalodon shark.
