It's been said the worst thing you can do to a Torreto is to take their family away from them, either figuratively or literally. A film after Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto reunited with his "long lost" brother, John Cena's Jakob Torreto, Fast X is putting the family front and center once again. But, this time, it's the youngest member of the crew who's in danger.
Jason Momoa's Dante Reyes has stolen the screen ever since he declared his intention and swore payback against Dom's crew after they killed his father following the Brazilian bank heist of Fast Five.
Now, Dante wants to make Dom feel what he felt - one family member at a time.
The son of the now-deceased drug lord, Joaquim de Almeida's Hernan Reyes, whom you might best remember for groping Gal Gadot's Gisele Yashar in Fast Five, has been described as someone who's "fueled by blood revenge, and... determined to shatter this family and destroy everything — and everyone — that Dom loves, forever."
And, while Dom's usually fought against either people on the side of the law or rogue agents, Dante might genuinely be a series' first villain who's as notorious in the criminal underground as he is if not more, as evidenced by that one particular callback scene.
As the Fast Saga's penultimate film, it's only natural for Paramount Pictures to raise the stakes. Fast X will be the climax to the franchise and will reportedly end on a cliffhanger before the final movie arrives sometime in 2025 to take the series across the finish line.
It's been an honor getting a chance to watch this crew grow over the years. Back in 2001, The Fast and the Furious put the underground racing scene under the mainstream spotlight when it featured a bunch of illegal street racers driving a trio of 1993 Honda Civic EJ1s en route to "boosting" DVD players from the local Chinese mafia. Several decades later, we've seen the crew dropping straight from the sky to get behind enemy lines to launching a rocket-powered car into outer space. But, throughout it all, one of the core storylines has always been the relationship between Dom and Letty.
Dom and Letty have defied the odds ever since Dom crashed both of their cars in a street race while trying to impress Letty as a teenager. But, now might be the end of the line.
Dante has proven himself to be the family's most lethal opponent yet, unafraid to exact his revenge against everyone that's close to Dom by any means necessary. If Dante can't get to Dom via his 8-year-old son, Birna, who's played by Leo Abelo Perry, Dante will likely go for the next closest thing - Letty.
We won't find out until May 19 if Dante will succeed or not, but he's certainly got the right idea by scattering the crew all over the world.
Speaking of the final Fast and Furious film, Diesel recently lobbied for Robert Downey Jr. to join the franchise as the final villain. According to Diesel, he'd love RDJ to come in and play an evil version of Iron Man.
