James Gunn, a name now synonymous with the upcoming DC movies, is stepping into the spotlight once more. This time, he's clutching the reins of an icon reborn, promising to launch the Man of Steel into an era of cinematic glory. To accomplish this, Gunn has confirmed that the upcoming Superman movie is being filmed specifically for IMAX screens.
Filming is currently taking place in Svalbard, where Gunn and cinematographer Henry Braham are working on the spectacle that will be Superman (previously titled Superman: Legacy). Every aerial maneuver and every display of superhuman finesse will be captured through the lens of the IMAX format, ensuring that when the man of steel takes flight, audiences will be left in awe.
The choice to embrace IMAX for the entire film stems from a desire to give audiences a true spectacle. Dune: Part Two, still showing in theaters, is a clear example of this. If Denis Villeneuve's success is anything to go by, Gunn is fully aware that anything less than IMAX for a reboot of the Last Son of Krypton would be a disappointment to fans all over the world.
