Universal releases Five Nights at Freddy’s teaser trailer

Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror game media franchise created by Scott Cawthon. The first part of the video game was released in 2014 and gained worldwide popularity. It spawned a franchise that includes numerous sequels, spinoff games, a novel trilogy, and an anthology series.

Five Nights at Freddy's and its sequels are all centered around the fictional children's restaurant Freddy Fazbear's Pizza named after its mascot. The games see the player take on the role of a night-time security guard who must use all the tools at his disposal to defend himself against the restaurant's murderous animatronic characters.

Five Nights at Freddy's stars Josh Hutcherson as the security guard Mike Schmidt. He is joined by Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, Kat Conner Sterling, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard.

Emma Tammi, best known for her work on The Wind, will direct the film based on a script she wrote with Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. Jason Blum, of Blumhouse Productions, and Cawthon serve as producers.

Fans of this popular game have been eagerly awaiting its adaptation since Cawthon first announced its plans in 2015. At the time, Warner Bros. was attached to the project. However, nothing came of it.

Following the disappointment, Cawthon released a statement and assured fans that the adaptation is coming.

He revealed he was in the middle of important discussions presumably about the film and addressed the disappointment stating, "The reality is that last year, The FNaF movie was met with several delays and roadblocks, some involving problems within the movie industry as a whole. As a result, as of right now, the movie is back at square one."

Later that year, Cawthon hinted that Blumhouse Productions was on board to produce the film, which Blum confirmed a few months later. The planned film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's faced other challenges but Cawthon will be glad he stuck through it given the film is finally set to debut in theaters.

Following the pattern of some high-profile Blumhouse Productions like Halloween Kills, Five Nights at Freddy's will be out on the streaming platform, Peacock, on October 27, the same day as its theatrical release.
