Five Nights at Freddy's will come out this fall

It has been a long time coming.

Five Nights at Freddy's is considered one of the best horror games of all time, and a movie inspired by the game was only a matter of time. Blumhouse, in collaboration with Universal Studios, announced the film with our first look at the official poster. The movie will be released globally on October 27, 2023.

Five Nights at Freddy's gained worldwide popularity with the release of the first video game in 2014 and has amassed a large following. Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror survival game where the protagonist is a security guard who must survive five nights at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant.

Five Nights at Freddy's isn't necessarily just restricted to video games. It is more of a media franchise with books, merchandise, and more. However, the video game was the primary catalyst for its persistent gain in popularity over the last few years.

Given it's level of popularity, it wasn't a surprise that a movie inspired by the events of the video games was in the making. The movie's production had a rocky period. While the announcement came just recently, the movie has been in development for as long as we can remember. Its inception dates back to 2015, with Warner Bros. being the first to pick up the rights to the movie.

Reportedly, the film was originally going to be directed by Gil Kenan but had undergone two more replacements in the years to follow. Chris Columbus, known for directing Harry Potter, was set to direct the movie but was replaced by Emma Tammi, the current director. Blumhouse took over the project in 2017. Blumhouse is a talented studio behind M3GAN, a recent horror comedy that took over the theaters by storm. Other notable movies backed by Blumhouse include The Black Phone and The Invisible Man.

Blumhouse recently shared an Instagram post confirming the movie's release date with an official poster and synopsis. The movie is set to release on Friday, October 27, 2023.

Two months ago, Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse, also shared a Twitter post confirming that the movie's filming had already begun.

As with any adaptation, the creator of the games, Scott Cawthon, is also actively involved in writing the movie alongside Emma Tammi and Seth Cuddeback. It has always been a cause of concern for fans, given they want the movie adaptation to be as accurate to the source material as possible. Fans of the franchise can rest easy knowing the creator of the games himself is also one of the movie's scriptwriters.

As expected, the movie will feature several animatronic animals of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant, who come to life at night and go on a murderous rampage inside the restaurant.

The movie's protagonist is a security guard who must survive the animatronic attack.

The animatronic animals of the restaurant will be created by the extremely talented Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Creature Shop is also responsible for their works in movies such as The Hangover, The Interview, The Jungle Book, Where the Wild Things Are, A Place with No Words, and more.

The Instagram post also lists several notable cast members, including Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games franchise, Matthew Lillard from Scream, Elizabeth Lail from the hit Netflix series You, Connor Sterling of We Have A Ghost, Piper Rubio of Unstable, and Mary Stuart Masterson from Blindspot.

Now that the movie is confirmed, the question that remains on everyone's mind is whether or not we will have the much-requested Markiplier cameo. It will be a huge fan service if Markiplier is somehow in the movie, and a good one at that. Markiplier is a popular Youtuber known for his "Let's Play" of various games. One of his more popular series involves playing Five Nights at Freddy's. If anything, Markiplier also plays a huge role in popularizing the game among the kids, as he has a huge following on Youtube with an impressive 34.6 million subscriber count.

In one of his recent videos, Markiplier says that if offered to be in a movie, he would accept it. The comments all support Markiplier getting a cameo in the movie. It is still quite early to speculate anything right now. For now, the fans can rest easy knowing they can finally watch their favorite horror game movie adaptation later this year.
