The Super Bowl LVIII wasn't just about touchdowns and field goals (congratulations Kansas City Chiefs and to the Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, by the way); it also served as the platform for highly anticipated movie trailers, including the thrilling first look at Twisters, a follow-up to the iconic 1996 disaster film.

Helmed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Twisters promises to take audiences on a heart-pounding ride through the perilous world of storm chasing when it hits theaters on July 19.

While not a direct sequel, Twisters carries the torch of the original, capturing its adventurous spirit and awe-inspiring depiction of nature's raw power. The trailer itself is a whirlwind of emotions, showcasing devastating tornadoes ripping through landscapes and hair-raising escapes as well as the unwavering determination of a new generation of storm chasers led by Powell's "tornado wrangler" and Edgar-Jones' scientist.

As previously mentioned, while it's thematically linked to the original, Twisters features new characters and a fresh narrative. According to director Lee Isaac Chung, the sequel aims to capture the adventurous spirit of the original film while also highlighting meteorology as an exciting field, much like its predecessor did. Thus, Twisters will try to carve its own path in the disaster movie genre. The involvement of Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, and Maura Tierney further adds depth to the cast, promising diverse perspectives within the storm-chasing team.
