Tyr voice actor teases potential God of War sequel

According to the voice behind the Norse god of War, Kratos' Nordic equivalent still has a role to play in future God of War projects.

Some would say that Tyr's role in God of War: Ragnarok was "disappointing."

God of War: Ragnarok isn’t getting any DLC and a sequel won’t arrive for quite some time either.

Nonetheless, if you ask the voice actor of Tyr, the Norse god of war will be back for more sooner rather than later.

Ben Prendergast was at PAX East 2023 where he shared that Ragnarok wasn’t the “last you’ve seen of Tyr.”

Shark Games notes that Prendergast only “knows a little” about the future of God of War. He also pointed out that his NDA prevents him from talking more about his role in the franchise. So, either Prendergast cleared his latest statement with the higher-ups or he’s got a ton of explaining to do.

In any case, Tyr “appears” in God of War: Ragnarok except he technically doesn’t. The Tyr in God of War: Ragnarok isn’t the same one mentioned in passing in God of War. Instead, it’s Odin who has disguised himself as his son. Thus, this begs the question, where is the real Tyr?

The award-winning sequel doesn’t explain what happened to the now-pacifist Aesir until the credits have finished rolling and his post-game appearance opens the door for Prendergast to return in a different game.

Who knows? Maybe Atreus and Angroda or Kratos and Freya will seek Tyr out now that they’ve stopped Ragnarok?

Technically, Tyr’s voice actor didn’t say that he’s playing Tyr again, only saying that we’ll see more of Tyr sooner than later.

Of course, the most likely explanation is that this has something to do with the God of War TV show. Amazon Prime Video secured the rights to do a live-action adaptation of the award-winning video game franchise by Santa Monica Studio.

It’s believed that the show will be based on 2018’s God of War, which has sold more than 23 million units since it came out. The show will likely take creative liberties and add events not seen in the game.

But, we wouldn’t deny that it’d be intriguing to see the real Tyr again in a new God of War game.

Our personal headcanon is that Atreus and Angroda will encounter Tyr while looking for the other Giants. Although Tyr and the Giants aren’t exactly on the best terms, he still aided Faye, Guardian of the Jötnar, in hiding the gate to Jötunheim from Odin.

At this point, only time will tell what Prendergast is talking about. Just don’t expect this to be revealed anytime soon.

In the meantime, those who haven’t played God of War: Ragnarok can check out the free trial. Finally, an upcoming TMNT game will take heavy inspiration from God of War.
