How time flies when you are watching something epic. The last time we checked, we were still enjoying the two-episode premiere. Now, we can’t believe that we’ll be watching the last episode of the hit fantasy show’s debut season in a few days.
Yes, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 is ending soon. After seven weeks of intense drama and anticipation, we are finally at its conclusion.
Amazon Prime dropped an epic trailer a few days ago at the New York Comic-con to tease audiences with what’s coming. The trailer focuses on Sauron’s return and the mysterious character known only as The Dweller.
The trailer also drops a teaser about the Rings which fans have been asking for since the beginning of the series. The video hints that the Rings of Power will still be forged but most likely not be finished by the end of season 1.
Are we going to find out who Sauron is?
Sauron’s identity has been a major question mark in The Rings of Power. Many have spent hours speculating Sauron’s identity and the finale will probably solve this. The candidates for Sauron are The Stranger, Halbrand, Adar, and The Dweller.
Early in the series, Adar was one of the prime candidates for being the Dark Lord Sauron. But, he’s shown compassion to the Orcs under his command and he mentioned that he has split Sauron open when interrogated by Galadriel. Many have eliminated him from being the Dark Wizard as he did not use the Sword Hilt himself to trigger the eruption of Mount Doom.
A lot of fans have been guessing that The Stranger is the Dark Lord. His fall from the sky and mysterious powers have led many to believe that he is the Dark Lord, but has just lost his memory. He is, however, being pursued by The Dweller which eliminates him from being Sauron.
The Dweller is another one of the characters that fans suspect to be Sauron. She wields potent magic, able to extinguish flames with her hands and release them with her breath. Her mysterious origins and dark nature have given rise to the theory that she is the Dark Lord in disguise.
The most sound theory from fans is that Halbrand is Sauron in disguise. An accomplished smith, Halbrand is also the newly crowned king of the Southlands. In episode 7 we see him depart with Galadriel presumably for the Elven kingdom of Eregion where the rings were forged.
It is said that Sauron disguised himself and counseled the best elven smiths into forging the Rings. Halbrand’s smithing skills and his departure to an elven kingdom do seem to point toward him being in some way involved with the Rings of Power.
Thankfully, the agony will end in a few days. The Rings of Power’s season finale will be out on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, October 14.
Season 2 of the series has begun production well before the first season concluded. There is no timeline for the premiere of the second season.
