Fans have been asking for a third installment of The Last of Us ever since the controversial but award-winning sequel was released in 2020. It doesn’t help that Naughty Dog keeps on teasing the third game as well but it hasn’t really given us any details about it so far. However, a new leak suggests that the next entry into the series will feature a new set of characters.

The rumor comes from a leaker best known for sharing information on Marvel TV shows and movies.
Over the weekend, Daniel Richtman revealed that The Last of Us Part III will follow the stories of five new characters: Lucas, Mason, Val, Ezra, and Gracie. The five are part of a group of “scavengers” trying to survive on the outskirts of a post-apocalyptic metropolis with a Victorian house as their base of operations.

According to the insider, Lucas is very “affable” but “develops a relationship with another young scavenger and will have a turn to show his dark side.” The rumor suggests that Gracie may be the love interest of Lucas and is said to be around the age of 18-25.
On the other hand, Mason is a former soldier who must “choose between his loyalty” to other group members when “Val gets put in charge.” It is implied that Val will be the leader of the group and the tension with Mason may be one of the main plot elements in Part III.
Ezra will reportedly serve as some sort of antagonist, acting mainly as a foil to Val. According to the rumor, Ezra wants to “take over the house from Val.”
Another leak from reliable insider ViewerAnon states that Ellie will be “at least as important” to Part III as she was in the second game. There is no word on whether Abby and Lev will return for the next installment. The leak also suggests that “major filming” for The Last of Us Part III will begin this year.

Neil Druckmann has previously said that the story outline for The Last of Us Part III has already been completed. The game director shared that he hoped that it could “one day can see the light of day.” However, this contracts another statement by Druckmann when he said that the studio will only work on Part III if it”can come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love.”
Sony and Naughty Dog have yet to comment on the new rumors about The Last of Us Part III.
Until it’s officially announced, it’s best to treat these rumors as they are and take any unconfirmed information with a pinch of salt.
The good news is that the next few seasons of The Last of Us are currently in the works with Season 2 likely coming out at a much later date than expected due to the WGA strike.
