Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced it was merging HBO Max and Discovery+ to form a new streaming platform called Max. During the platform’s unveiling, the company announced several new projects it has currently in development, including a new Big Bang Theory spin-off.

The new spinoff is still in the early development stage and a decision hasn’t been made about who it will center on. Still, we know that Chuck Lorre, the brilliant mind behind The Big Bang Theory, and the only other spin-off, Young Sheldon, is on board. The new spinoff will reportedly feature new cast members, although it will most likely leverage the popularity of the mainline series by featuring guest actors.

The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular television sitcoms with fans all across the globe. The show ran on CBS for 12 seasons between 2007 and 2019 with almost 18 million viewers tuning in for its final episode. The show was a critical hit with, among other things, ten Emmy Awards from 55 nominations as well as a Critics Choice TV Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The Big Bang Theory’s success resulted in a spinoff prequel, Young Sheldon, that followed one of the characters during his early days. Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 and has been highly successful in its own right. The series is currently in its sixth season with over 120 episodes aired since its debut with a seventh season on its way.

Young Sheldon is the first and, currently, only Big Bang Theory spinoff.

The new Big Bang Theory spinoff will be the second collaboration between Chuck Lorre and Warner Bros. Television for the new platform. Currently, the producer/director is working on a TV show, How to Be a Bookie with Nick Bakay, starring Sebastian Maniscalco, Omar J. Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, and Jorge Garcia.

Apart from these two projects, Warner Bros. Discovery is also working on a Harry Potter TV series and a second Game of Thrones spin-off. Finally, the company also revealed the first teaser trailer for the fourth installment of its anthology crime drama series, True Detective.
