Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay reveals huge improvements

The sequel also features enhanced combat options allowing complete for complete control of weapons and the Force. Survivor features five combat stances that can be unlocked and equipped as primary and secondary fighting styles. Players have the option to wield single, double-bladed, dual-wield, and crossguard lightsabers along with blasters.

The crossguard lightsaber option is powerful but slow, dealing massive damage to enemies. Dual wielding allows for quick and precise strikes while staying mobile. Players can also use a blaster with the lightsaber and perform unique combos.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor enhances the controls and customization options of its predecessors. Players have more control of the direction that Cal dodges oncoming attacks and platforming mechanics are more natural.

Players can also change the look of the protagonist in the game. Cal can alter his hairstyle, facial hair, and clothing. The customization option extends to Cal's lightsaber and droid companion BD-1.

The game also features flying mounts to aid exploration of the game's massive open-world environment. The sequel makes the most of the power of the current generation of consoles and PC for stunning visuals.

There are other activities that players can engage such as town-building mechanics. Gamers have the option to help characters they meet along the way which may end up aiding Cal in his adventures.

Respawn has done a good job of retaining the formula that made Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order a successful title while adding more features to the sequel.

"The game is built on the fundamentals of the best games that we played throughout our lifetime, like the things that we point out in other games. Can we make that work in Star Wars? It's kind of a soup, right?" Creative director Stig Asmussen said.

He adds, "We got to make sure that we've got all the right ingredients there. We taste a little bit, and it's like, let's add a little bit of this. Let's add a little bit of that. Star Wars is always a part of it, but those tried and true design fundamentals are the backbone of everything that we're doing."

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on April 28.
