Last year, Quantic Dream announced that it was working on a new Star Wars role-playing game. The announcement for Star Wars Eclipse happened at The Game Awards.
New information about the game has been leaked in a podcast. According to a report by Sacred Symbols’ Colin Moriarty (paywalled and transcribed by VGC), the action-adventure RPG will feature a new race called the Zaraan. This new race has not appeared in any of the previous Star Wars games, novels, or movies.
The Zaraans are a humanoid race and will be led by one of its members, named Sarah. The plot will revolve around Sarah and the political conflict within the empire.
According to the leaked information, the Zaraan “prides itself on political and military aggression, and similar to what you find elsewhere in Star Wars there’s little differentiation between males and females when it comes to roles and responsibilities. But, there’s an interesting wrinkle, when Zaraan marries, their nuptials carry interesting military implications as they become one governing unit that works together.”
“This is a problem, because Sarah, a fanatical true believer in the violence and criminality regularly demonstrated by her empire, is married to a character named Xendo, who is a far softer touch. Part of the game seems to revolve around these two characters and their relationship,” Moriarty adds.
Interestingly, there have been reports that information shared by Sacred Symbols is part of a “controlled leak.” Insider Gaming reveals that the information was released to gauge interest in the game from the community and help in the recruitment of developers who would work on the game.
We have previously reported that Quantic Dream has been struggling to hire developers to work on the Star Wars title. The studio has faced allegations of toxic workplace culture and financial mismanagement.
It has been reported that the story of Star Wars Eclipse takes place some 200 years before the events of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The timeline of the RPG is set during The High Republic era, which was the golden age of the Jedi.
The story of Eclipse will take place in the Outer Rim. If you are familiar with Star Wars lore, the Outer Rim was a battleground at the time of the High Republic era, as the Senate sought to take control of the region. During the time of the Empire, the separatists made the Outer Rim their base of operations.
According to the announcement of the Star Wars Eclipse, “the game will build upon Quantic Dream’s expertise in delivering deeply branching narratives and will go beyond their already established acclaim. Player’s choices will be at the heart of the experience, as every decision can have a dramatic impact on the course of the story.”
The launch trailer for the game is impressive and feels like it belongs in the Star Wars universe. If the game is as visually stunning as the trailer, then it should be a game worth checking out.
Star Wars Eclipse is still in early production. There is no date for the release of the RPG game. We expect the title to come to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X sometime in 2027.
