Sony rumored to be hosting a State of Play in September

An upcoming State of Play may soothe gamers on the Sony platform. Having new game announcements may also be a good way to soften the blow of the price increase. Gamers are probably ready to hear what is in store for the platform beyond the high-profile releases like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake, and Assassin's Creed: Mirage.

The State of Play may have been timed to happen close to the highly anticipated release of Starfield on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Players on the Sony console may feel left out that the Bethesda space exploration RPG isn't coming to the PlayStation. An exciting and loaded State of Play showcase may cheer up gamers on the platform. Having game announcements and release date reveals may soften the blow of Starfield's exclusivity to Microsoft platforms.

Sony may also showcase the PlayStation Portal at the upcoming event. A tech demo or deep dive for the PS5 handheld companion could be on the table at the event given that the upcoming device is expected to release soon.
