We have been hearing talks of an upcoming PlayStation State of Play for some time now. A new rumor suggests that a Sony games showcase may finally be happening.

The new information comes from Giant Bomb reporter and gaming insider Jeff Grubb. The leaker has a reliable track record of accurately predicting upcoming gaming events. The upcoming State of Play will reportedly address the recent increase in PlayStation Plus subscription prices.

I've heard a State of Play is coming, and this feels like a lead-in for that," Grubb tweeted. The gaming insider responded to a tweet about the price increase hinting that Sony may tackle the reason behind the hike in monthly subscription rates.

Sony recently announced a price hike for all three tiers of its PlayStation Plus subscription service. The annual cost of the Premium tier jumped by a massive $40. The new pricing scheme will take effect on September 6 for new subscribers and upon renewal for existing ones.

The price increase hasn't sat well with gamers on the platform. Players lament the increase in subscription prices for PlayStation Plus and streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+. Xbox also recently increased its subscription rates for the Xbox Game Pass.
