The upcoming TV show will expand on the world of Kratos and Atreus.

Amazon Prime announced in December that it is making a live-action adaptation of the very popular God of War game series. While details are scarce at this point, one Sony executive gave a positive update for the upcoming series.

Sony Pictures Television has recently found success with the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television recently sat down with Deadline to talk about projects like The Last of Us, and Cobra Kai, briefly discussing the upcoming God of War TV series on Amazon Prime Video.

Pope did not share much detail about God of War but discussed the progress of the live-action adaptation. She revealed that the project is still early in development and is staying true to the source material.

“There’s a lot of really important IP here, we’re working on God of War, the PlayStation title, which is still in the early stages,” Pope shared. “I know the game pretty well, and I’m so impressed with what they’re already doing in terms of building out that world and expanding, keeping all the values of the game but also expanding it so that if you don’t know the game, it’s still going to be a really satisfying show on its own.”

The upcoming Amazon Prime Video series is still very early in its production.

Being true to the source material has been the crucial factor for the success of The Last of Us on HBO. It looks like Sony is sticking to this formula with God of War. The game does have a compelling storyline and contains a good bit of drama sprinkled in between the high-octane action sequences.

Pope also highlighted the fact that the show is still early stages of production. This means that it may take a while before audiences get to see the live-action adaptation.

Based on the timelines of previous live-action adaptations, it is likely that pre-production for God of War will be finished before the year ends. We assume that the show will start filming by 2024 and should be ready to premiere on Amazon Prime by mid to late 2025 at the earliest. This is purely an assumption on our part, though, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

We predict that God of War will premiere in 2025 at the earliest.

Regardless, it is exciting for fans to hear that Sony is sticking to the important bits of the story while expanding the world of Kratos and Atreus.

One important piece of information that fans want to know is who will be playing Kratos in the TV series. Sony has not yet revealed the cast for God of War as of writing. Hopefully, we will get more information about the TV show in the coming months.
