We’ve got good news for comic book gaming fans: a new AAA Marvel title is launching in 2025.

Skydance New Media, led by the renowned Amy Hennig, has unveiled the first trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra at the Epic Games event at this year’s Game Developers Conference. The game’s official reveal showcases its cinematic storytelling and the studio’s use of groundbreaking technology.

As per the trailer, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set during the tumultuous era of World War II, features Captain America and Black Panther in a visually stunning narrative-driven action-adventure.

The trailer provides a glimpse into a war-torn world where a quarter of heroes must navigate the complexities of the era’s geopolitical landscape. With scenes set in snowy landscapes lit by searchlights and detailed character animations bringing the characters to life with remarkable realism, the game promises an immersive experience. Utilizing Epic’s Nanite Tessellation technology, the visuals deliver on the cinematic quality Hennig is known for, emphasizing the authenticity of the characters’ costumes and the environments they inhabit.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is built on the Unreal Engine 5.4, as emphasized during the State of Unreal keynote. The engine choice allows Skydance to create an engaging and visually spectacular experience.

Aside from a young Steve Rogers nad Azzuri, the Black Panther of the era and T’Challa’s grandfather, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will also throw Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones and Wakandan spy Nanali into the mix.

As expected from Amy Hennig, celebrated for her work on the Uncharted series, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will set itself apart from other comic book video game adaptations by focusing on a narrative that sees the heroes work hard to thwart a sinister plot by Hydra, set against the backdrop of World War II.

Her vision for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is to tell a story that combines action, mystery, and the kind of thrills associated with pulp adventure genres. The game aims to capture the humanity, complexity, and humor that are hallmarks of Marvel characters, allowing players to step into the shoes of these heroes.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC, is the debut title of Skydance New Media. With Amy Hennig at the helm, it’s a brave venture that could potentially raise the standard for comic book video game adaptations going forward.
